October was a month of hard questions about big promises. It's worth a few minutes of thought for anyone who runs a local business.

A rough month for the machines

Friday's close was a rough one. Stocks had their worst day since June: the Nasdaq fell 2.86%, the S&P 500 fell 1.82%, and the Dow fell 1.09%, led by Intel, down 28.6% on a weak outlook, according to AP.

Across October, the Nasdaq lost 5.3% as investors started asking whether all that AI spending will pay off, AP reported.

The backdrop didn't help. The Fed held rates at 3.75% to 4.00% on October 28 in a 10-2 vote, with two officials wanting a hike now. The economy grew 3.4% in the third quarter, but September hiring was only 29,000 jobs, and markets still price roughly a 70% chance of a December hike, according to Reuters and CNBC.

When money gets careful, people get careful

When rates stay high and the headlines wobble, everybody spends more carefully. That includes your customers.

Careful buyers look for the real thing: a business they can see, work they can touch, a person whose name they know.

Skepticism about big AI promises is really skepticism about things nobody stands behind.

Where Old Craft comes in

This is the ground Old Craft was built on. Our claim is simple: marketing made by real people. It's not a slogan about tools. It's about who makes the work.

Real photographers in your shop. Real printers at real presses. A real designer drawing your logo. And one person, Miles, who answers the phone and stands behind the result.

When the hype cools, that's the work that still looks good on a counter, on a door, and in a customer's hand.

If you want marketing somebody stands behind, give Miles a call. A real person will pick up.
